DEDICATED TO JORDYN
Blood and Bone and Me
Read for free!
Tip-toe, here we go, on the mudslide
that you’ve contrived again. And
my head’s under siege, and
my lungs are burning; she
commands all that she sees —
blood and bone and me.
So I slip n’ slide, sacrificed,
to pay the price of my kin —
the price of her sin —
‘til I whisper when I scream,
nothing left of me (no sanity),
only the shadows that feed on
blood and bone and me. Then
mudslide: blind eye, pretend
I haven’t been here before. This time,
surely, I’ll be washed ashore —
blood and bone and nothing more.
Special thanks go to JellyJordyn today, without whom this poem likely would’ve never been published on Medium and certainly not in this form. She read something I was at my wits’ end with and thinking I’d have to scrap, and convinced me it was perfect just the way it was.
She’s an amazing poet, and I’m honored to have her as a friend! ❤
